Life Insurance with Heart History in Idaho

A past heart attack, stent, or bypass surgery doesn’t automatically end your chance at life insurance – but it does mean we have to approach it carefully.

I’m Chris Antrim, an independent agent in Boise. I work with Idaho clients who have heart history and still want to protect their spouse, family, or business.

What Counts as “Heart History”?

Insurers may flag:

  • Past heart attack (MI)

  • Stents

  • Bypass surgery

  • Angioplasty

  • Diagnosed coronary artery disease

  • Congestive heart failure

  • Arrhythmias, pacemakers, and other cardiac issues

Each company has its own guidelines about how much time must pass after an event, and what level of risk they’ll accept.

Key Details Insurers Want to Know

When placing coverage after a heart event, I’ll ask:

  • What type of event or procedure you had

  • Dates of events or surgeries

  • Follow-up care and medications

  • Whether you’ve had recurring symptoms

  • Your current activity level

  • Any other conditions (diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney disease, etc.)

The more stable and well-managed your situation, the better.

Policy Options After Heart Issues

Depending on severity and stability, we might look at:

Traditional term life – often with some extra rating for risk

Whole life – in cases where smaller permanent coverage is appropriate

Final expense policies – common for older clients with significant heart history

Guaranteed issue – last resort if control is very poor or complications are severe

We may also look at smaller coverage amounts than someone without heart history would carry. The important thing is having something in place.

Timing Matters

Most companies want some time to pass after a major heart event before they’ll issue coverage. If your event was:

  • Very recent – options are more limited right now, but may open up later.

  • Several years ago with good follow-up and no recurrent issues – options are better.

We’ll talk about where you fall and what’s realistic today – and how things might change in the future.

Realistic Expectations

I’ll always be frank:

  • Premiums will be higher than someone your age with no heart history.

  • You may not qualify for huge coverage amounts, especially at older ages.

  • We may blend term and final expense or use guaranteed issue to complete the plan.

The goal is to build the best plan possible within the reality of your medical history and budget.
