If you’ve ever been told “you don’t fit on our build chart,” you know how frustrating weight-based underwriting can be.
I’m Chris Antrim, an independent agent in Boise. I help Idaho clients with higher BMI or weight-related concerns find life insurance that works within real-life bodies – not just textbook charts.
Every life insurance company has a build chart – a table that pairs height and weight with risk classes.
They look at:
Your height
Your weight
Whether you have related conditions, like:
High blood pressure
Diabetes
Sleep apnea
Joint issues
Heart problems
Some companies are much more flexible than others when it comes to higher BMI.

I’ll ask for:
Your exact height and weight
Any major weight changes in the last year or two
Whether you have related diagnoses:
Hypertension
Diabetes
Sleep apnea (and if treated with CPAP)
Heart issues
This lets me avoid carriers that are overly strict for your build and focus on those that are more forgiving. We are also focusing about tobacco users.
Depending on your build and other health factors, we might look at:
Traditional term
often still possible, just at a different rate class
Traditional whole life
smaller amounts, permanent coverage
Simplified issue
policies that don’t require an exam, but have questions
Final expense
easier underwriting, smaller coverage
Guaranteed issue
if your overall health is very challenged
Sometimes we’ll use a combination to build a realistic plan.
A lot of people with weight concerns delay life insurance because they’re worried about judgment or being declined.
That delay can:
Increase pricing as you age
Lead to worse health over time
Leave your family exposed
My job isn’t to judge your weight – it’s to find coverage that works with the body you live in right now.
Depending on your build and other health factors, we might look at:

I’ll tell you where I’d start and what types of policies make sense.

We move forward only if it feels right.
If you’re in Idaho and have a higher BMI, you’re not alone – and you don’t have to figure this out by yourself. Let’s find a plan that’s realistic and respectful of where you’re at now.
