High blood pressure (hypertension) is one of the most common health issues I see with Idaho clients – and in many cases, it’s still very possible to get good life insurance.
I’m Chris Antrim, an independent agent in Boise. I specialize in helping people with health conditions – including high blood pressure – find realistic, affordable life insurance options.

Insurers don’t automatically decline you just because you take blood pressure medication. What they care about is:
How high your readings are
Whether your blood pressure is controlled with treatment
How long you’ve had hypertension
Whether you have related issues (kidney disease, heart disease, stroke history, etc.)
Things that help:
Regular check-ups with your doctor
Consistent medication use
Documented, controlled readings over time
If your blood pressure is high but well-managed, you may still qualify for very reasonable rates and traditional coverage.
To place you with the right company, I’ll need some detail:
Your typical blood pressure readings (not just the worst one ever)
How long you’ve been diagnosed with hypertension
The medications and dosages you take
Any history of:
Heart attack
Stroke or TIA
Kidney problems
Diabetes
Your height and weight
You don’t have to have perfect answers – we just need a clear picture.

Depending on your overall health and age, options might include:
Traditional term life – for income and mortgage protection
Traditional whole life – for small permanent needs and legacy
Final expense whole life – for funeral and small bills
Simplified issue policies – no exam, health questions only
As a back-up for severe cases: guaranteed issue final expense
Because I work with multiple carriers, I can look for companies that are more hypertension-friendly.
If your blood pressure:
Is often very high
Has caused hospitalizations
Is combined with other serious conditions (heart failure, kidney disease, etc.)
…then some insurers may:
Charge higher rates
Ask for more medical records
Or decline traditional coverage
In those cases, we might:
Start with final expense coverage
Use guaranteed issue if needed
Revisit other options if your control improves over time
The goal is to get some coverage in place, then improve it if/when your health picture stabilizes.

Many can be done electronically. Some may use a brief exam, others use pharmacy records and medical databases instead.
